What AI Tattoo Lab does

AI Tattoo Lab is an online tattoo design generator. You type an idea, pick a style, a placement and a height in centimetres, and it returns four original designs. You can preview each design on six skin tones, Fitzpatrick I through VI, and export a stencil at true size. Generating requires a free account, which is how we keep usage limits fair.

The aim is to close the gap between the picture in your head and something an artist can actually work from. Most people walk into a consultation holding a screenshot of somebody else’s tattoo. We would rather you walk in with a design that started from your own words, at the size you want, on the part of the body you had in mind.

Who it is for

Most of the work people do here falls into a few groups. None of them need drawing skill, and none of them replace the conversation you will have with an artist.

• People planning a first tattoo who want to test an idea before they book anything.
• People who know the subject but cannot picture the composition, the crop or the size.
• People adding to existing work and trying to see whether a new piece will sit next to it.
• Tattoo artists using the generator in client consults, for flash sheets and for stencil prep.

A design is a starting point, not a finished tattoo

This is the part we will not soften. A generated image is a reference. It does not know your anatomy, your scars, your existing work, how your skin takes ink or how the piece will move when you bend your elbow. Take the design to a licensed artist and let them adapt it to your body.

In practice an artist will redraw parts of it. They will thicken lines that are too fine to hold, open up detail that would blur in five years, and reshape the outline so it follows muscle instead of fighting it. That redraw is the craft, and it is the reason the tattoo ends up looking good on skin rather than on a screen.

How the designs are generated

The generator runs a text to image model. It produces new images from your prompt, your style choice and your size and placement settings. It is not a search engine and it does not look up existing tattoos or pull photographs from a library, so what comes back is original output rather than someone’s portfolio piece.

Two honest caveats. Common symbols look alike, so a simple rose, anchor or moon phase design can resemble work that already exists, and that is worth mentioning to your artist. And if you paste in a description of a specific artist’s copyrighted flash, you are asking for a problem that no tool can solve for you. Describe what you want, not who drew it.

Every generation takes four inputs and returns a set of designs you can compare side by side before you commit to one.

Inputs and outputs

• Inputs: a prompt in plain language, one of 12 styles, a placement, and a height in centimetres.
• Output: four designs per prompt, so you can compare compositions instead of judging one image.
• Previews on six skin tones, Fitzpatrick I through VI, because line weight and contrast read differently on each.
• A stencil export at true size, so 12 cm on the sheet is 12 cm on the arm.
• Downloads at 1024 px on the free plan, and 300 DPI stencils as PDF and SVG on the paid plans.

Plans

Free costs nothing and gives you 3 prompts a day, 12 designs a day, all 12 styles, downloads at 1024 px and a personal use license. Free designs may appear in the public gallery, so use a paid plan if your idea is private.

Pro is $9 a month: 500 designs, unlimited edits, 300 DPI stencil export as PDF and SVG, private designs and an artist share link you can send to your studio. Studio is $29 a month: 2000 designs, 3 artist seats, client consult mode, a commercial license for flash and your shop branding on share links.

What happens to your prompts and uploads

Prompts and generated designs are stored with your account so you can come back to them. If you upload a reference photo, it is deleted after 30 days. On the free plan, designs may be shown in the public gallery. On Pro and Studio, designs are private to your account.

You can delete your account, and the designs go with it. The privacy policy has the full detail: what is collected, why, how long it is kept, who processes it on our behalf, and how to exercise your rights under GDPR and the CCPA.

What we do not claim

There is a lot of noise in this category, so here is the short version of what we will not tell you.

• We do not claim the generator replaces a tattoo artist. It draws references and stencils.
• We do not give medical advice. Healing, allergies and skin conditions are for a professional.
• We do not promise a design will suit your placement without an artist reviewing it.
• We do not publish user counts, awards or testimonials that we cannot stand behind.
